Bizarre Incident Unfolds as Chilanga Resident Faces Charges for Enchanting Youngsters

In a startling turn of events, a 21-year-old resident of Chilanga finds himself in police custody after the parents of three young clients, aged between 10 to 11 years, reported him to the authorities.

James Mumba, hailing from the Water Works area, stands accused of captivating the youngsters with a peculiar tale that led them to collect sand from fresh graves. The motive behind this macabre request was the creation of charms, which Mumba insisted the children drink.

The saga unfolded on November 30, 2023, when Mumba enlisted four boys, aged 10 to 13, for yard work, withholding any agreement on payment. On December 1, 2023, at 16:00 hours, Mumba shifted the narrative, promising the boys not mere coins but supernatural strength for victorious battles.

To attain this mystical power, the boys were directed to collect soil from a fresh grave and each bring a shoelace. Mumba brewed a concoction, including a snake's head, creating charms that were distributed to the boys. The elaborate usage instructions involved drinking a bit in the morning and adding some to bathing water for five consecutive days.

The mystical journey took an unexpected turn when, after faithfully following the instructions for two days, the boys decided to cease their enchanted routines. The truth surfaced when a vigilant parent learned of the peculiar ritual from his 10-year-old son.

Taking swift action, the concerned parent rallied three others, and together, they reported the matter to the police. Law enforcement visited the scene, recovering some of the charms, which are slated for examination at the University Teaching Hospital's food and drug laboratory.

Ensuring the safety of the children, they underwent medical checkups at a local clinic. Interestingly, investigations revealed that a 13-year-old boy missed out on the enchanting experience as he arrived late and was instructed to return the next day.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the arrest of the young medicine man.
