"Zambia's Firm Stand Against Criminality: President Hichilema Addresses Recent Gold Scam and Ensures Business Integrity"

Amid a recent exposé that led to the apprehension of more than 10 individuals implicated in a gold scam, Zambia is resolutely committed to promoting lawful business prospects while vehemently opposing all forms of illicit activities.

President Hakainde Hichilema has underscored his unwavering determination to thwart criminal undertakings within the country's borders. He issued a stern warning to those involved in criminal acts and corruption, emphasizing that the United Party for National Development (UPND) affiliation will not serve as a shield for criminal pursuits.

In a press engagement at State House today, President Hichilema asserted that criminal behavior and corruption will find no tolerance. He clarified, "If you intend to engage in unlawful activities or corruption, you stand alone. While Zambia is open for legitimate business and I, as its chief marketing officer, advocate for this, it should never be misconstrued as harboring malicious intentions."

He further asserted that his administration's openness to business should not be misconstrued as an avenue for criminal activities. He categorically denied space for those attempting to exploit various guises, such as civil service, investment, or gold trading, for criminal purposes.

Commending law enforcement for exposing the gold scam, the President highlighted the shift in environment and leadership, signaling that past criminal actions have no place in the UPND administration. He raised pertinent questions about the circumstances surrounding the landing of another aircraft and stressed the need to scrutinize responsible parties and protocols governing such situations.

President Hichilema acknowledged the matter's presence in the judicial process and refrained from delving extensively into it. He also urged political adversaries to differentiate between crime and politics, advocating against politicizing issues and targeting opponents with baseless accusations. He concluded by urging restraint from tarnishing the reputation of political rivals, acquaintances, or journalists in an effort to discredit them.
